The June 11, 2010 Emango celebrations in Hoima will go down in history
as history-making. Not only for the huge crowds which assembled from
all corners of the kingsdom and began celebrating three days early, but
for the matter-of-factly declaration of Culuturl leaders
Kooki(Kamuswaga), Buruuli (Isaabanyala) and Bunyala(Isaabanyala), tht
they had traced their origins and are they must be known as pure
They stamped this declration by making their speeches in
Runyoro-Rutooro (even if broken). They briefly traced their history and
how they came to be annexed to Buganda.
The Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara, Rukirabasaija Solomon Gafaabusa Iguru
showed his perfect knowledge of history when he narrated, in minute
details, how each of those chiefdoms came to be separated from their
mother kingdom Bunyoro-Kitara. He recognised that those were mistakes
committed by their grandfathers and that we the Banyoro of today should
forgive each other and move forward as one united Buyoro-Kitara.
And President Museveni commented that the ordinary Baganda do not know
this history because they are fed wrong information. The climax of thse
revelations came when the Isaabanyala, Captain Becker Kimeze Byarufu
was officially, culturally, crowned the Isaabanyala of
Bunyoro-Kitara’s Okwiri, the head of the Ababiito and
Princesses, peprformed the ceremony of OKUSUMIKA ORUBUGO, thereby
signifying that the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara, as the cultural source
of all Babiito culture, had conferred upon him the title leader of the
The group of Abanyala who accompnied the Isaabanyala burst into
ululations upon their culturel leader being confirmed and reconginsed
as their leader.
Conspicuously Buganda kingdom did not send the katiikiro nor any
kingdom official to represent the kingdom.
Another history-making activity was the huge number of cultural leaders
not only in Uganda but from neigbouiring DRC Congo and Kenya who also
declared that they are originally Banyoro but they were separated by
colonialists from their mother kingdom BunyoroKitara.
Last, but not least was the number of Europeans who attended the
The Omukama’s and Katiikiro’s speeches reminded the President who
seated right infront of them that the kingdom serriously wants their
God-given share of the oil that going to be drilled from their kingdom.
The ePresident was informed that the Petroleum Bill before the cabinet
does not mention what share Bunyoro-Kitara is going to get.
And the Banyoro youths who attended the ceremonies audibly said , “it
will be useless for oil to be drilled from their kingdom when they will
be getting nothing from that bonanza. Many said, if the oil refinery is
going to be built in our backyard, in our gardens, and the pipiline to
pass in our millet gardens, and we indigenous people get nothing, then
it is as well the oil is not dirlled at all from our kingdom.
Dear Editors, I leave the other details of what took place ther to be
supplied to you by your local reporters who were there in big numbers.
