Bunyoro Criticises Former Buganda Katikiros and Nambooze

Dear Editors’

The other day ex-Buganda Katiikiro Joseph Mulwanyammuli said, “Kabaka RonaldMutebi is the only person in Uganda who is not allowed to visit his kingdom”

He was referring to the aborted Kabaka Mutebi visits to Buruuli, Bunyala and Ndaiga in Buyaga county of Kibaale District.

Its amazing to see that a person of one of the highest academic achievements like Mulwanyammuli, and of course the present Katiikiro J. B. Walusimbi and his deputy Emmanuel Sendawula,, and the MP Nambooze and now MP aspirant Segoona, etc. all of these have vowed to fight for the retention of Bunyoro’s lost counties as part of Buganda. Thus
emphasising the role and flag as colonialists.

The reasons why the Uganda Government stopped the Kabaka from entering those chiefdoms are very clear. Yet knowdlegeable people, the above people, who should know continue to act as if they do not know.

And June 11, 2010 at Hoima Palace at the Empango Celebrations, the cultural leaders of Buruuli, Kooki, and Bunyala clearly stated that they had retraced their origins. That their origins are Buyoro-Kitrara Kingdom. Isaabanyala was even Culturally crowned The Isaabanyala of Bunyala They cemented this by speaking in their original mother tongue, Runyoro

Since Uganda is entering a general election  next year, and the purported reasons why Mulwanyammuli, Muliika, etc. have joined the fray of politics, is to fight for Buganda to retain her colonies.

And poor Nambooze has been given the impossible task of going to Parliament and fight for federo which is based on retention of the lost counties and establishing Buganda as a special entity in Uganda.

It is possible that these people are genuinely uninformed.  Therefore, since we should never get tired of educating people I have felt it imperative to post material, historical background to inform and to educate these people.

These documents have been posted before, but it is obvious Nambooze, Mulwanyamuli, Muliika, Seggona, etc have not read them.  I am giving them one more chance to read them free of charge.

Hence I am postiging them. Now download and read them free of charge.

  1. Surely, todays Uganda is one nation and not a collection of kingdoms. What we want is the development of Uganda as a country and not to fighting for Kingdom territories.

Mirima travels in and out of Buganda yet he is a Munyoro and nobody has ever stopped him. Even King Gafabusa has properties in Buganda and he lives in Buganda most of the time.

What is wrong with King Mutebi going to visit his people in Kayunga? He can go anywhere in Uganda without applying for a visa. Where is civilisation and co-existence?

Bunyoro is in a bad state. We have no access to medical care, quality education, good roads, ,electricity, clean water, reliable security, state pension, land etc. But this old man called Mirima is focusing on nonsensical issues such as fighting for Buruuri to be removed from Buganda. Of what significance is that? Mirima must evolve and try to be mordern.

Mirima is still mourning for people who 170 years ago during Buganda Vs Bunyoro wars. He is then better of dead. We only need leaders who are ready to advocate for the living. According to us the Banyoro, the living are more valuable than the dead. We nolonger live in past tense otherwise, Renaissence and Reformation will not benefit us if we do live in past tense.

In Uganda, people live any where at any time freely. Do not make us digress us from national issues by fronting these childish bull shit called lost sub-kingdoms my foot.

The Baganda are intelligent. They advocate for their people. They demand M7 to improve services in their region but in Bunyoro, all the forests have been cleared, land given away just like that to Bafuruki, people are still dying of silly diseases like jiggers, malaria, leprosy etc. No body cares. We need to initiate focus groups in Bunyoro to advocate for our people because people like Mirima are just fooling us. We want to know who is benefiting from our oil. Where are the contracts?

We need to inform Banyoros to join partisan politics in order to amplify the voices of the ordinary Banyoro. We deserve better. The Baganda’s are strong and focused. Buganda even has non Baganda like Maama Mabira who helping King Mutebi to fight to ensure that Mabira forest which is in Buganda is not destroyed by these short-sighted mafias.

When will Bunyoro wake up. They are silent. They have made Buganda their enemy instead of making Buganda their partner in development.

Betty Nambooze was a great friend of Mirima and right now, Mirima should be handing over Bunyoro’s demands to Nambooze as an opportunity for Bunyoro to benefit from its oil.

Why are our people short-sighted. Who bewitched them?

Can you imagin that an educated man like Mirima is using history as a social theory? If history determins man’s future, then the Barlin wall should be reinstated.

If at all history determins man’s future, then why is German part of the allied forces on the war against terror?

If at all we were to go by history, then why did German support UK and US against the USSR during the cold war?

Mirima must stop thinking that Buganda is Bunyoro’s enemy. Buganda is supposed to be Bunyoro’s partner in development. The time of subsequent conquest is long gone. But the old man still lives in past tense. 80 percent of Banyoro’s live in Buganda, they have intermarried and have properties in Buganda. The largest number of people in Bugerere, Mubende, Mityana, Mpigi, Masaka, Mukono are historically Banyoro. But they are happy to be where they are and they do not need any other identity apart from being Ugandans either of Baganda or Banyoro tribes, King Ronald Mutebi has Kinyoro and Nkole plus Luo blood, He is not a Muganda at all, But he is happy with his identity and he is not complaining, His children are also cross breeds but they are also happy and healthy, No body is complaining, Buhanga is a Munyo-Ganda, And taroho omutaribaine,

Uganda is now a nation and the time for territorial – Kingdoms is long gone. People live any where any time.

All that we need in Bunyoro is a better quality of life for outr people in Bunyoro. I live in London and I do not give a shit about how many people died in Second world war. All that I care about is how long does the ambulance take to come when I need it?, How long does the police take to respond to my call?, How long does it take for me to see a doctor? How reliable is the London train services? and many more. I can go and live any where in Britain and still , I will ask for the same questions. And if I need clean water and then you tell me about Montegomery, I would be very disappointed in you just as Im disappointed with Mirima.

Again, Mirima is too old. Bunyoro needs fire-brands like Seggona and Nambooze. Any body who was 10 years old in 1962 should be written off.

  2. Summary: “Bad news, Akena Adoko is back”, wrote Kakooza Mutale on late Akena Adoko’s return from exile, back in 1980, in his pamphlet, “The Political Economy”. If I say the same in the case of one “Sir” Henry of Kampala’s coming back to the UAH forum with resurrected ‘gandophobia’ and home-grown revanchism, in a higher gear, I should be understood in the context of the post in subject. Taking advantage of prevailing political atmospheres to score centuries-old grievances, caused not by any of our generations today, may have short term gains, in terms of bread and butter but, will not wind back history.

1/6. I may as well say, “Bad news, ‘Sir’ Henry Ford Mirima (to whom ‘gandophobia’ is a pastime, is back on the UAH forum, in a higher gear though on this, his pet subject”. The man is such a revisionist that he , during the day, thinks ‘gandophobia” and when sleeping, dreams the same.

2/6. One would probably not have paid much attention to him, after all he is practicing ‘freedom of thought and right to information’ enshrined in our constitution but because his propaganda, the “Mirima Ford {poisonous} Gospel”, has a lot of followers, many of them innocent, others in positions of responsibility, one is forced to react.

3/6. Whence the genesis of the revisionist and propaganda of hate? I beg to move that, he being the “manager” of information flow in Kitara Kingdom, ‘Sir” Ford may be responsible for the ‘bad air’ now seemingly emanating from the once mighty kingdom, eastward, to the perceived ‘eternal enemy’ neigbours (as though Bunyoro was a sovereign sate already). Look at the example bellow:

4/6. During his enthronment or somewhere around that time, H.H. Omukama Iguru said something near this, “….thank my great Uncle, Mutesa I, for inviting ….to teach…. how to read and write…” (emphasis mine).

5/6. What does this prove? That at the beginning, even the Omukama of Bunyoro did not originally see Buganda, more so, today’s Buganda, as the ‘enemy’ Mirima’s propaganda would want us to believe. He is the inventor, the accuser and the retrospective Judge on events long past. If H.H; whom he ostensibly serves, was not antagonistic to Buganda when he ascended the throne, how come that the Mirimas, as his advisors, hanker on to the past? Is it for their own or for others’ purposes? How does ‘revanchism’ serve the day-to-day needs of the people of Bunyoro today?

6/6. Conclusion: It is hard therefore, not to agree with Buhanga’s post, “Mirima must stop thinking that Buganda is Bunyoro’s enemy. Buganda is supposed to be Bunyoro’s partner in development”.

“Sir” Ford and his likes have engaged a higher gear in their propaganda especially in the wake of the “..cutting off..” of heads rhetoric and the subsequent media nuances, etc, meaning that in fact, the Mirimas think the situation is so favorable now to help destroy “Project Uganda”, hoping that from its ashes, the pre-1750’s Great Bunyoro Kitara will rise and ‘shine again’ [as the UPC’s used to sing for us in the early 1980’s].

But let such be reminded that, by riding on the NRM crest for bread and butter to day, they, in fact are “ridding a Tiger’ and a ravenous one at that. If in doubt, ask the Luwero people, or the Dr. Besigye’s, the Njuba’s, the Byanyima’s or even Buganda. Do not forget the saying of ‘..the puppy you raise…turning around and biting you’ .

Note: [This, to my knowledge, is not an English proverb. It is paraphrased in the language, just to minimize the possible offence to some ears].

    Christopher Muwanga,
